stream out of western canada. that's supplying that cool flow of air and that's a pattern we're not expected to see change appreciably until about wednesday. then we'll be back in the cold again. let's check our forecast. first of all for tonight skies, clouds early, well, mostly cloudy let's say thereafter. calm winds. cool temperatures by the morning hours. low temperature 43 to 49 degrees. then for tuesday mostly cloudy with an isolated shower possible. high temperature between about 60 and 65. northwest winds expected. tomorrow night partly cloudy and cool by sunrise. 44 to 49-degree low temperatures. not too bad just yet and wednesday should be the warmest day of the week. fairly comfortable temperatures ranging between about 70 and 75. as winds turn southwesterly from 5 to 15 miles per hour. 7-day forecast promises that cold outbreak by the weekend. friday, saturday and probably sunday will have daytime highs mostly in the 50s. probably as you see there lower 50s for a day or two. but the bigger story may be what happens during the overnight hours with temperatures drop

about the weather pattern that has shaped up is the speed with which canada is filled with cold air. it's oozed into the northern tier of states too. that will never really in full strength come down into the chicago area. because the upper winds are strong from the west. still winds off the lake will be a big factor this weekend. and we've had clouds increase through the day. our models show storms developing as the night goes on. we expect these to thicken up as the night proceeds. but it's 72 tonight and that's not bad at o'hare. 74 at midway. here you see a plot of the temperatures across the metro area. and the dew points which have crept higher. they mask the fact of low dew points in this area that the air south is more humid and flooding up into this system that's going to race across here and produce big rains today here in minnesota. look at the rains in rosemount, minnesota. showers and thunderstorms came through that area. there they are. and here's redwood falls in southwestern minnesota. this is the weather system that's working in our direction. there have been really imp

really impressive. this is our temperature forecast, a cool air from canada, dropping into the midwest and hanging around much of this coming week. in fact, several days, we will probably struggle to make 70 degrees. notice plenty of hot air continues to cling to the nation's southern half. the sun belt looking at temperatures from california to florida. upper 80s, even low 90s for some of the regions. that's all that is left of popup thunderstorms that invaded the area earlier this evening. there were some wind gusts, close to 30-miles an hour and brief heavy downpours, but they are dieing out. let's check our forecast for tonight. no showers, low, 52-57 degrees and for monday, the morning clouds maybe, but then the sun will come back out. high temperature, 7-h76-80. tomorrow night, mostly cloudy, not much wind, 54-58-degree lows. during the day on tuesday, we expect the clouds to increase. that may produce passing showers, but that will have to overcome the drying effects of the lake breeze, high temperature, 71-75. better chance wednesday into thursday of seeing showers and thunders

showing canada filling up with warm air. there's a probability of another 80. a 45% probability of a 90- degree temperature from this point forward. that's based on 82 years of records. these are the cumulus clouds. micah said what were those clouds today? the blue sky later reappeared. but beneath those we had the coolest high temperature since we've had back in early june. look what happened in the north woods. 31 last night in glid den, wisconsin. and we were as cool as 41 in burlington, wisconsin. sugar grove at 45. pretty amazing how cool it was across the area. do we need a microphone here. all right. hang on to this. look at our temperature tonight at o'hare. already down to 58 degrees. it's 62 at midway. it's a cool night we've got coming up here with mixed clouds. and temperatures today that made it into the low 70s. if you were away from the lake. but only 67 at o'hare field. so it was cool. that's the view from kankakee. and here's what you would have seen down in arkansas today. where hermine's remnants were sending showers and thunderstorms through the air. same through her

's like autumn in the north woods and north to canada. we'll get a taste of that tomorrow night. here's a 10-day forecast of the air mass movement. see how we sit astride this sharp temperature demarcation line? the blue is cold air, and the orange is hot air. look at this thing that comes down over the weekend and sweeps into northern minnesota, north dakota, and even upper michigan. we will get warm as that comes in, because it will turn our winds around to the south, produce a weather system that comes in from the west, and turns our winds southerly late in the weekend early next week. so we'll warm back up and not cool off until next week at some point. we have seven 80s left to go, history tells us, and there's a pretty good rain system coming too. generous sunshine tomorrow, rain out of the forecast. but wednesday, clouds over, there could be showers late in the day and there is a very good chance of downpour generating thunderstorms thursday night. it will taper to sprinkles and will end friday which will be beautiful, saturday is beautiful and a thunderstorm sunday as we begin

of the arctic region. look at temperatures in the 30s and 40s in northern canada. that air mass swings into the upper mid west and sets up a big temperature contrast zone through this area this weekend. we will get a northeasterly wind to lock in as saturday goes on. that continues on sunday. it will be cool and we may run a couple of rain generating impulses along it. it will not be an all weekend rain. 54 twin cities. 54 at duluth. bemidji, minnesota. look at the temperature drops in the last 24 hours. huge chunk of the country. much cooler than it was. and we are pushing this humid air that fueled today's showers off to the south as evidenced by the lower dew points which stand at 55 in chicago but we will see 40s in the next couple of day pmps humidity 75%. winds northwest as we say and 69 as our water temperature along the shoreline. moderate values of mold, ragweed and weed reported today from loyola gottlieb hospital. we will see this pocket of winds here. that's that cool air mass coming southward. about the time crosses the u.s. canadian border these winds will sheer the colde

. nothing like that 88 we had yesterday. but there is plenty of cold air that's pooling up in canada. we will have tastes of that from time to time throughout the next week or two. notice throughout the area temperature not at all uncomfortable just a bit of a chill in the air. but dew point temperatures in the upper 50s and low to mid- 60s suggest the air is primed for a little rainfall. plenty of moisture up there. winds are coming off of lake michigan but hardly very strong. notice wind speeds under 10 miles per hour. but that cool lake water will tend to have an effect on downtown temperatures. this is our temperature forecast. the warm air and the oranges and reds. that's going to stay far to the south while this canadian air continues to sneak down into parts of the mid west and the in fact, by this weekend we will have a day or two of but from time to time again the hot air will surge back over the chicago area. don't put away the short pants just yet. looks like we will have a couple of warm days ahead. big thunderstorms are moderately big affecting parts of indianapolis. wind gu

degrees. plenty of cold air up there in canada as it's making it way down the central plains. some of that air will be effecting us over the next seven days but not thunderstorm. look at these tonight. we have fallen to 65 at the moment with dew points in the low 60s across the area. that produces a mild overnight period. winds have been off of lake michigan all day today and the water temperature is 68. so that's had a cooling effect around the lake front. those areas adjacent in the 60s. there's that cold air. watch it slowly through the animation. you can see it's moving across and settling over the chicago area that following tomorrow's very warm high temperature. then retreating allowing a bit of a warm up but more cool air is coming in over the weekend and the weekend beyond. the weekends both look chilly. the next one after this next one looks very chilly. this is a map of present watches and warnings and so forth. this green area up to our north, those are actually flood watch areas. this is the reason. area of showers and thunderstorms that's tracking through southern minn

in canada is waiting and it's going to come into the chicago area. in fact, the cold front, the leading edge of that cold air is expected to make its way to chicago tonight around midnight. but the main chunk of cold air that is coldest air will wait until the weekend. temperatures across the entire area at this hour very comfortable. and there is not much moisture around. dew point temperatures as you see in the 40s across the area so it's a good day to get out and enjoy some sunshine and very mild temperatures. there is the wind picture. notice the winds coming out of the south. they will come out of the south, southwest most of the afternoon. but shift around to the northwest overnight tonight as that cold front comes through the area. temperature forecast, there is the milder air. that front the cold air begins to invade the chicago area. and it looks like this weekend we will see day time high temperatures just in the 50s and possibly some 30s chilly. there is a hot air continuing to build out in the western states. but we were thinking that maybe by the weekend the western states also

. they involve a big cool air mass that's taking shape in canada. it will drape over the northern tier of states and set up a big jet stream and little impulses like the one here just starting to reflect itself with some showers and thunderstorm develop out in the plains. some of which may grow severe today and will come our way. look how absent preparation is -- precipitation is from a good chunk of the united states at this point. that's the change. we will have more moisture in the week ahead. we are getting an inch and a quarter total. forecast on average in the models in the next search days. .8 of an inch of rain this time of year. modestly above normal. 78 at sugar grove at this hour. glenview at 77. freeport at 80 and glen ellyn at 79. and these are all temperatures with comfortable humidities. light northwesterly wind. that's another change that's going to happen. and winds will be predominantly easterly. very lightly tomorrow. but strengthen a bit in the days ahead. winds will come off the lake and that starts cooling things down a little bit this time of year. winds are eight from the

at the cool air in canada. the oscillation index, of cold air at it lowest level indicating the build up of cool air will be quite extensive. yet it appears the jet stream on the south side of that cool air mass, and you can the see 46 tonight at marquette. we'll share is the coolest air to the east of us. still we're not going to see any 80s for a little while. northeast winds at 7. humidity 47%. high vol of mold -- value of mold spores. his is a bit of a front sagging southward. so we'll have a reenforcement of that cool air. see how the clouds build up tomorrow. these will be down play the rainfall. suggests we get anywhere from a third to 9/10 of an inch of rain tomorrow night. it's bringing into the cool air draped in high pressure. you'll see the model developing these showers and storms that will go across here tomorrow night. the peak tomorrow night through 5:00 a.m. tomorrow night is the point where they'll be most concentrated. thursday it'll be all over. and it could produce severe weather out to the west of us. we'll talk more about the

over there and temperatures in the 20s at this hour in northern canada. the shorter days taking their toll on temperatures and giving rise to the cooling there which starts setting up more and more powerful jet streams and that's united states weather of autumn and winter turns more active faster steering winds and forces in the atmosphere to get storms going. 70 in chicago, 61 up the lake at green bay and rhinelander at 49. it's 47 in duluth. many areas registering a temperature drop over the last 24 hours with east winds blowing here at 13. humidity 49% and water at 68 degrees. and the pollen numbers are down. mold spores a moderate ragweed and weed. loyola gottlieb hospital and dr. joseph lea and his staff. here is what we were talking about. powerful jet stream. look that the batch of winds right there. that white area, that's strong band of winds. when the winds strengthen like that, that's a sign that temperature differentials increasing because cold air is coming south. what it does is this fast west to east flow takes the core of the cool air and ultimately ships it off
